Mayu Hirano

Mayu Hirano studied at the National University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo where she worked with Genichi Tsuge (musicology), Hinoharu Matsumoto (harmony) and Yoshio Unno (violin). She studied composition, first as a self-taught student: electronic music, then instrumental music. In 2003, she obtained her master's degree in musicology on "Physical Experience and Repetitive Music".

In 2008, she turned to improvised music and followed the improvisation technique course in jazz violin with Didier Lockwood. After being introduced to composition with Luis-Fernando Rizo-Salom, she studied composition with Jean-Luc Hervé and electroacoustics with Yan Marez at the Conservatoire de Boulogne. In 2013-2014, she joined the Cursus at Ircam.
