Raphaël Cendo studied piano and composition at the École Normale de Musique de Paris before joining the composition class at the Paris Conservatoire and following the Ircam curriculum (2004-2006). At the end of his training, he was taught by A. Gaussin, B. Ferneyhough, F. Romitelli and P. Manoury.
With other composers of his generation, including Y. Robin and F. Bedrossian, he advocates an aesthetic of saturation. Inspired by contemporary music in particular, he cultivates an overflowing energy in his music, and does not hesitate to bring to the forefront what is usually considered to be “dirty”.
A Villa Médicis resident from 2009 to 2011, he taught composition at the Conservatoire de Nanterre and now lives in Berlin.
