
Yan Maresz studied piano and percussion in Monte-Carlo and then devoted himself to rock and jazz guitar. He studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music (1984-1986), then turned to composition at the Juilliard School and completed his training with David Diamond (1992). He attended Ircam with Tristan Murail (1993).
Maresz is an active teacher: composer in residence at the Strasbourg Conservatory (2003-2004), visiting professor at McGill University in Montreal (2004-2005), he teaches composition at Ircam (2006-2011) and is currently professor of orchestration and electroacoustics at the Paris Conservatory and at the CRR in Boulogne-Billancourt.
